Barns Above the Dale
Oil on Wood Panel, 120 x 50cm
Available from Bath Fine Art

Extract from John Fineran on Lindsey Hambleton, Tregoning Fine Art, 2008: Barns Above The Dale is an altogether larger and more muscular work, painted from the shoulder. Hambleton’s Derbyshire credentials come strongly through without a single blade of green grass or other illustrative intent. Eschewing such pedestrian ambition there are brooding Indian Red masses of hill and ridge guarding the dark and mysterious entrance to a dale.

Towards Elk Low, Snow under the Walls
Oil on Wood Panel, 61 x 40cm
Available from Tregoning Fine Art, Derby
SOLD

In these 2 paintings, produced as a pair, I have attempted to capture the soft light of late winter and early spring. Elk Low (or Aleck Low as it is now known) is a short walk up the field from my home. There is no official footpath, but on this occasion I managed to explore the small woodland which has grown amongst the remnants of ancient buildings and burial chamber. The hawthorn hedge is unmanaged - wild and twisted, forming a suitable gateway to the low. 'Back Road' is also a local place, and is a response to my discovery of this narrow road which cuts through woodland, then climbs to dramatic open high ground. The rain had just stopped, and I made several sketches, mainly to record the light as it hit the wet road.

Frozen Field (Ilam)
Available from Tregoning Fine Art
SOLD

Produced on location, these paintings take advantage of late winter light. The shadows in Alsop were superb, with brilliant light hitting the church. Ilam park has been the inspiration for several paintings this year. As I approached the river , there appeared to be a lake in the distance, but it was a frozen white field.

Spring Woodland

Spring Woodland II
Oil and collage on Canvas
60 x 60cm
The collage is taken from a 1950s ecology book, with text about woodland plants, and images of all the bird species that I have seen in this location making up the shrub on the bottom right.

Hallway
Oil on board, 30 x 35cm
The Music Room
Oil on board, 30 x 35cm

Based on memories and sketches from Hemingford Grey Manor in Cambridgeshire, these two intimate paintings focus on the details of the interiors. The paint is thickly applied, and is suggestive of the textures, fabrics and many objects. The Manor is the house of Green Knowe in the well known children's books by Lucy Boston.
